Essays and essay outlines written by W. Claude Adams (1873-1961) for an English class, possibly at the University of Oregon. Essay topics are the formation of the Oregon Provisional Government; the lives of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and British monarch Queen Victoria; and manufacturing industries in Clackamas County, Oregon. W. Claude Adams would later become a dentist in Portland, Oregon.

Bound manuscript minutes and records of the Bethel Institute, March 3, 1855-March 5, 1883, beginning from the school's inception. The Bethel Institute was established in Zena, Oregon, in the mid-1850s by members of the Disciples of Christ. It merged with Monmouth University in 1865 and became Christian College, then became the Oregon State Normal School in 1882. The school would change names and focus several more times before becoming Western Oregon University, its current name, in 1997.

John L. Casteel was born in Randolph, Nebraska. He taught speech at the University of Oregon and the Union Theological Seminary in New York. Collection includes diaries describing Casteel's life in Randolph; his teaching career; his daughter, Margaret, and son, John Alden; and other topics.

Oral history interview with Amo R. DeBernardis conducted by Corbett S. Gottfried from April 9 to November 5, 1993. DeBernardis was the founding president of Portland Community College, serving from 1961 to 1979.

La Creole Academic Institute was incorporated by the legislature on January 28, 1856, as a university. Collection includes act to establish LaCreole by the Oregon legislature, 1856; wills of John H. Robb and Albert Tebbetts, bequeathing property to La Creole, 1861 and 1863; quitclaim deeds, 1914; correspondence, notices, documents of dissolution, 1958; and memorabilia.

The Lewelling Club of Corvallis, Oregon, was an informal organization for horticulture students and faculty at the Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University). Collection includes minutes of meetings; typescript constitution and bylaws; and a typescript financial statement. Also included is an extract about the club, with a list of members, from the 1910 edition of "The Orange," the college yearbook.
