The collection consists of four essays and two essay outlines written by W. Claude Adams for an English class, possibly at the University of Oregon. The subjects of the essays are: The formation of the Oregon Provisional Government; the life of U.S. president Abraham Lincoln; the life of British monarch Queen Victoria; and the chief manufacturing industries of Clackamas County, Oregon. The outlines are for the essays concerning the Oregon Provisional Government and Clackamas County manufacturing industries. Most works also include brief comments by Adams' unidentified instructor regarding the quality of the outline or essay.

Biographical Note

W. Claude Adams was born in 1873 in Brookline, Missouri. He studied at the University of Colorado Dental School, Northwestern University, and the University of Oregon. In 1905, he began practicing dentistry in Portland, Oregon, and continued until his retirement in 1945. His wife was Myra L. Adams (1883-1968). W. Claude Adams died in 1961.
