Lucia S. Fear papers

Abstract

Papers and family photographs of Lucia S. Fear (1862-1957). Fear was born in 1862 in Kansas, and worked as a lawyer there in the early 1880s. She and her family later moved to Portland, Oregon, where she participated in the Mazamas climb of Mt. Hood in 1894 and was a member of the Portland Woman's Club.

Abstract

Lewis R. Fields (1856-1924) came to Portland, Oregon in 1875 and began working for the Southern Pacific Railroad, ultimately becoming general superintendent of the system's lines in Oregon. Papers include a souvenir book, 1914, of Fields' farewell dinner upon his retirement from the Southern Pacific Railroad; photocopy newspaper clippings regarding his retirement, 1914, and his death, 1924; and manuscript letters of condolence, 1924, sent to his son, Roy Fields, upon his death.

Information about the Five Oaks Historic Site in Hillsboro, Oregon, compiled by Ruth E. Pasley (1912-2012), including photocopies of newspaper articles and newsletters. Five Oaks, called Chatakuin by the Atfalati (Tualatin Kalapuya) people, is a group of five Oregon white oak trees in Hillsboro, Oregon, that has served as a gathering place for more than 500 years.

Theodore Patrick Flynn (1891-1954) was an equipment development engineer for the U.S. Forest Service, Region 6, and director of the USFS Equipment Laboratory in Portland, Oregon, 1936-1949. Collection includes biographical materials, patents, blueprints, specifications, reports, photographs, clippings, a photo album, and memorabilia regarding design of specialized equipment used in forestry and construction work, particularly for controlling forest fires.
