The Homer T. Shaver papers include a typescript copy of an address to the 41st meeting of the Veteran Steamboatmen of the West, Champoeg, Oregon, 12 pages, July 31, 1966, regarding Portland streets named after river vessel operators. Papers also include typescript correspondence between Shaver and E. Mowbray Tate, 1953, regarding the Shaver Transportation Company and the history of various steamboats and sternwheelers operating in the Pacific Northwest in the early 20th century.

Biographical note

Homer T. Shaver was born in 1891 on the east bank of the Willamette River. After earning a law degree in Washington, D.C., he returned to Portland to practice law. In 1921, he joined his family business, Shaver Company. He helped organize a towboat firm, Shaver Forward Company, to haul grain to Portland from the Upper Columbia River. In 1967, he became president of Shaver Transportation.

Abstract

Homer T. Shaver joined his family business, Shaver Company, in 1921. He helped organize a towboat firm, Shaver Forward Company, to haul grain to Portland from the Upper Columbia River. In 1967, he became president of Shaver Transportation. Papers include a typescript copy of an address to the 41st meeting of the Veteran Steamboatmen of the West, July 31, 1966, regarding Portland streets named after river vessel operators.
