With the album are a poem about a dog by Elwyn Marston, age 11, of Columbus, Wisconsin; a silk 48-star U.S. flag; and two loose photographs.

Martin served in the U.S. military from the 1890s to 1920s, attaining the rank of major general, and subsequently served as a U.S. representative and then as governor of Oregon. Ellis G. Hughes, who was Martin's father-in-law, was a prominent real estate attorney in Portland, Oregon.

Lida M. O'Bryon was one of the first women lawyers to practice in Portland, Oregon, and served as a deputy district attorney. McCann was a friend of O'Bryon's.
