Collection consists of two albums, one containing studio portraits of unidentified members of the Ulen family, and the other containing souvenir postcards, addressed mainly to Grace Ulen, depicting buildings, ships, and scenery in California, Utah, Arkansas, and Oregon.

Among the subjects depicted are scenes in the Columbia River Gorge, including Multnomah Falls, a fishwheel, a blockhouse, and Oneonta Gorge; Mount Hood and Mount Shasta; a joss house in Portland's Chinatown; portraits of Chinese opera actors in full costume; and unidentified people and residences.
