Scope and Contents

Collection consists of 37 black and white photographs, 1904-1905, depicting construction of the second Morrison Bridge in Portland, Oregon, by the Pacific Construction Company. All states of construction are shown and many photographs have descriptions on back. The photographs are mounted on cloth backing and were part of an album.

Historical note

The original Morrison Bridge, a wooden span completed in 1887, was the first bridge across the Willamette River in Portland. It was replaced twice by new bridges of the same name: a swing bridge built by the Pacific Construction Company in 1905, and a bascule bridge completed in 1958.

Gift of W. G. Swigert, July 1989 (Lib. Acc. 19445, Photo Acc. 989D115).

Processing Information

Photographs in the collection were previously designated Album 839 by the Oregon Historical Society Research Library. Album was disassembled and covers discarded due to water and mold damage.
