Henry Larcom Abbot papers

Abstract

The collection consists primarily of letters written by Henry Larcom Abbot (1831-1927) to his parents in 1855, journals he kept during his work on the Pacific Railroad Survey in California and Oregon in 1855-1856, and various field notes and celestial observations he took for the survey.

Henry Allyn diary and cartes-de-visite

Original and typescript copy of a diary that Henry Allyn (1794-1880) wrote during his overland journey to Oregon, and three cartes-de-visite photographs of Allyn and his family. Allyn emigrated to Oregon in 1853.

Bancroft, Nunn, and Trevett family papers

Abstract

Papers and photographs of the related Bancroft, Nunn, and Trevett families. Theodore Brooks Trevett (1832-1901) came to Oregon in 1850, and in 1865 married Mary Melissa "Lissie" Bancroft (1837-1933), who had previously lived at Fort Simcoe, Washington Territory. Their daughter Emily Bancroft Trevett (1867-1958) married English-born oculist Richard K. Nunn (1859-1920) in 1901.

Anna Birchman diary

Abstract

Manuscript diary of Anna Birchman (nee Anna Björkman, later Anna Birchman Mills), written in Swedish, with entries dating from December 18, 1890-January 14, 1891. Birchman wrote the diary in the form of a letter home to her family during her emigration from the Dalarna province in Sweden to Portland, Oregon. Also included are a typescript English translation and an edited version of that translation in the form of a pamphlet published in 2006.
