Public School No. 1, also known as Central School, opened in 1858. The school closed in 1885, and the site later became the Portland Hotel, and then Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Many of the plans in this collection were either produced or otherwise used by Portland Railway, Light & Power Company, which operated streetcars in Portland, Oregon, in the early 20th century.
