 Collection
Identifier: Album 462

Scope and Contents

Collection consisting of 245 black and white photographs and photographic postcards, 1 color postcard, and a newspaper clipping, dating from approximately 1900 to 1951. Most of the images are contained in a photograph album; 12 photographs and postcards, as well as the news clipping, are loose. Roughly half the photographs in the collection depict unidentified Portland Fire Department firefighters, firehouses, and vehicles, as well as fire department floats in the Portland Rose Parade. The newspaper clipping, cut from Page 4 of the March 5, 1951, edition of the Oregonian, features photographs of Portland's new central fire station. The remaining images in the collection consist of unidentified family snapshots, including group and individual portraits of adults and children; images of vehicles, houses, outdoor scenes, and boats and ships; and photographs taken at a funeral. Several loose photographic postcards, which were in an envelope glued in the back of the album, are postmarked or dated 1928, and have handwritten messages addressed to Mr. and Mrs. George Starr of Salem, Oregon.
