Papers of unidentified farmer
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of the papers of an unidentified farmer from Portland, Oregon, who operated a farm near Boring, Oregon. The papers include a journal and two financial ledgers. The journal contains diary entries from December 1920 to October 1922 and from April 1933 to May 1937 that describe the purchase and development of the farmland and his work, including plantings and improvement projects, financial records, and a cattle breeding record. Many of the entries in the financial ledgers, which date from 1938 to 1942, relate to payments the farmer made to individuals for berry picking. Loose materials in the collection consist of additional handwritten financial records and clippings, possibly from a farmer's almanac, with information about weights and measures, recommended rations for cattle, and recommended amounts of seed to plant for different crops.
