Scope and Contents

Collection consists of photocopies of two manuscript letters from John Henry Johnson to his sister, Mary E. Warren, of New Berlin, Illinois, dated January 25, 1863 and March 2, 1865; and a photocopy of Johnson's manuscript diary of the Civil War, October 10, 1864-May 1865. The original diary and letters were retained by family members.

Photocopies of two original letters and a diary of John Henry Johnson (1838-1940), a Civil War veteran from Illinois who moved to Oregon in 1883. The letters were written to Johnson's sister, Mary E. Warren, in 1863 and 1865; the diary, written during the Civil War, includes entries from October 1864-May 1865.
