Scope and Contents

The collection consists of records relating to a time capsule that the Waverley Country Club of Portland, Oregon, buried on April 26, 1997. Records include a list of items placed in the capsule; a set of guidelines for artifact and document preservation; an event program for the capsule's burial; the text of prayers by Episcopal Rector Emeritus Tom Cummins and of remarks by Waverley Country Club President Douglas R. Grim; and the Centennial Time Capsule Committee's final report, written by co-chair Ashton Marcus.

Historical Note

On April 26, 1997, the Waverley Country Club of Portland, Oregon, buried a time capsule. This event was meant to conclude the club's "Centennial year," a series of events that began in 1996 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club's founding. The time capsule contained artifacts, including golf clubs and golf paraphernalia; club records; newspaper clippings and issues; and ephemera.
