Submissions for Oregon Trail Section of the Oregonian
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of materials submitted by readers to the Oregonian newspaper for possible inclusion in a special section that the newspaper published in 1993 in honor of the sesquicentennial of the 1843 Oregon Trail wagon train. These materials include correspondence to the Oregonian, as well as family histories, photographs, genealogical information, newspaper articles, and excerpts from diaries and reminiscences. The collection also contains lists of people who made submissions for the section.

Historical Note
In early 1993, the Oregonian newspaper of Portland, Oregon, solicited readers to send in stories about the Oregon Trail and ancestors who had emigrated to Oregon in the 19th century. Selected responses were included in a special section of the Oregonian, the Oregon Trail Section, which was published in the newspaper's March 14, 1993, edition to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Oregon Trail.
