Biographical note

Absolom Hallock (1826-1892) was a mechanic, draftsman, civil engineer, and surveyor. He built numerous buildings in Portland, Oregon, and served on the Portland Common Council as chief of the Fire Department. In 1874, he moved to the Tillamook area, where he became the first postmaster of the Barnegat post office in Tillamook County.

Papers of Absolom Hallock include mixed journals and account books; correspondence relating to business, personal matters, and the Portland Fire Department; and receipts. Hallock (1826-1892) was a mechanic, draftsman, civil engineer, and surveyor. He served on the Portland Common Council as chief of the Fire Department, and was the first postmaster of the Barnegat post office in Tillamook County, Oregon.
