Russell include correspondence, 1944, to his relatives, from France, regarding military life; correspondence, 1940-1941, from the Portland Art Museum regarding enrollment and sale of his artworks; a letter, 1942, from Sgt. Alfred E. Peacock regarding Russell's artwork; program of classes at the Museum Art School, 1943-1944; and a typescript letter, 1948, to Russell's parents, posthumously awarding him a Purple Heart.
