Souvenir photograph books about shipyard's construction, 1941 April-August

The collection consists of records, photographs, and memorabilia of the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation of Portland, Oregon. The collection was assembled by Oregon Historical Society Research Library staff from multiple sources, including a donation from the company's manager, Albert Bauer. Records include information about watercraft constructed at the Oregon Shipbuilding Corporation's shipyards, reports about fires at a dock and in the company's administration building, architectural and design drawings, and instructional manuals or informational publications for employees.

Photographs in the collection include souvenir photograph books showing the construction of the shipyard in 1941, two copies of a photograph album about the company's Child Service Centers, a photograph album depicting the construction of pontoons for the U.S. Army, a souvenir photograph book commemorating the launch of the S.S. Dominican Victory, and a bird's eye view of the shipyard. Memorabilia in the collection includes a certificate with an ink drawing of the ship H and M Summerkamp; souvenir publications, including a copy of "Record Breakers"; a print of the S.S. John I. Nolan; and clippings and a historical note about the Child Service Centers. Memorabilia also includes several items that were written by or belonged to employee Marie "Chub" Hopkins Klinkhammer, including a copy of "Record Breakers" signed by shipyard workers, and a letter and a postcard about the Vanport flood of 1948.
