Abstract

Slides taken for the Oregon Department of Transportation, depicting the center-arch span of the Fremont Bridge in Portland, Oregon being hoisted into place in March 1973. The images show the 6000-ton steel span being floated by barge down the Willamette River and lifted 175 feet, the heaviest bridge lift ever completed at the time.

Photograph taken in Portland, Oregon, that shows the roofs of buildings in the foreground at left, a rail yard at right, and the Steel Bridge under construction in the distance. The Steel Bridge over the Willamette River opened July 21, 1912, for trains and August 12, 1912, for automobiles.
