Fort Walla Walla, Washington Territory photograph
Photograph of Fort Walla Walla, taken on May 1, 1859. The photograph was originally owned and may have been taken by Frederick Tracy Dent (1820-1892). Dent served as captain of the 9th United States Infantry at Fort Walla Walla. In 1859, Fort Walla Walla was a cavalry outpost for the United States military located in the Washington Territory, now Washington State.
William Russell Parnell photographs
Collection consists of five photographs that were originally owned and may have been taken by William Russell Parnell (1836-1910). Parnell was stationed at several military encampments in the Northwest, including those depicted in this collection. While stationed in the Northwest, he commanded Troop H and Troop F of the 1st Cavalry of the United States, and fought in multiple conflicts with Native peoples in the region.
