Abstract

Collection includes two engravings from "Atlas du Voyage de la Pérouse," part of "Voyage de La Pérouse autour du Monde," a compilation of findings of the Jean-François de Galaup La Pérouse expedition. Titles are in French. The engravings are Plate No. 53, "Tombeaux de la baie de Castries," and Plate No. 54, "Costumes des habitans de la baie de Castries."

Abstract

Collection consists of seven engravings depicting scenes of people, activities, and places in the Kamchatka area of Russia, on the Pacific Coast. The engravings are from the second volume of Jean-Baptiste Chappe d’Auteroche's "Voyage en Sibérie," published in Paris, France, in 1768, which included a translation of Stepan Petrovich Krasheninnikov's "Opisanie zemli Kamchatki" (Description of the land of Kamchatka), 1755. Titles and captions are in French.

Abstract

Engraving taken from an unidentified book, showing the Russian town of Okhotsk, on the Pacific Coast, with people in boats in the foreground. Okhotsk was the first Russian settlement on the Pacific Coast, established as a military camp in 1643.
