Forestry and Forestry Products

Technical drawings of machinery and systems for the industrial distillation of wood products. The drawings were made in 1907 by Rolof Carl Otto Jürgensen, a chemical engineer in Prague; his designs were adapted by a Portland, Oregon-based engineering firm, Hegardt and Brown. The drawings in this collection may be associated with the Hawley Pulp and Paper Company, which operated a mill in Oregon City from 1908 to 1948.

Collection includes corporate records and minutes, 1946-1964; minutes and records of annual meetings; treasurer's reports; correspondence from Thornton T. Munger and various logging companies; ephemera.

St. Helens Pulp and Paper Company was founded in 1925 by Willard P. Hawley and Willard P. Hawley, Jr., of the Hawley Pulp and Paper Company in Oregon City, Oregon. Max Oberdorfer was the founding manager. Collection includes correspondence, 1925-1928, between Oberdorfer and the Hawleys regarding plans to build a new paper mill in St. Helens, Oregon.

Oral history interview with Loran L. Stewart conducted by Clark Hansen from October 29, 1992, to June 22, 1993, as part of the Oregon Legislature Oral History Series. Stewart was an Oregon state representative from 1951 to 1955.

Collection consists of photographs, primarily black and white, and two strips of film. Subjects depicted include camping and hunting near Umpqua Hot Springs; family members; lumber scenes and equipment; a field trip of the O & C Advisory Board to the Hubbard Creek Burn Area; and officers and directors of the West Coast Lumbermen.
