Jacob Avshalomov papers

Abstract

The papers of Jacob Avshalomov consist of correspondence, clippings, programs, musical scores, certificates, memoir books, photographs, and publications relating mostly to his musical career, as well as those of his sons, David and Daniel, and his Russian-born father, Aaron. Also included are programs, reviews, and photographs of the Portland Junior Symphony (later the Portland Youth Philharmonic), which he led from 1954 to 1995.

Benjamin Driscoll was a musician, leader of the Driscoll Orchestra (1904-1906) and cornet player at the Heilig and Bungalow theaters, Portland (1907-1909). His wife, Cerena I. Driscoll, taught voice, drama and piano. Collection consists of correspondence and ephemera relating to the Vega Company and other musical instrument companies, the Royal Arcanum, the Portland Rowing Club and other rowing associations, and the YMCA. Also included are miscellaneous papers of the Driscolls.
