Printed draft, March 1, 1952, of "Account of the Stranding and Loss of the S. S. 'North Sea' " by Captain Frank Huxtable, formerly Chief Officer on the North Sea, for the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society. The account concerns the shipwreck of the steamer on Porter Reef, British Columbia, February 13, 1947.

Collection includes correspondence; poetry by E. T. Allen; miscellaneous papers and articles on forestry; and a eulogy for Allen.

Papers of chef and author James Beard (1903-1985), including clippings and typescripts of articles and recipes that he wrote; materials relating to books that he wrote; appointment books; correspondence; menus he collected; photographs; and biographical information. Beard grew up in Portland, Oregon, but spent most of his adult life living in New York City. He championed regional American dishes, and became known as the "Dean of American cookery."

Collection consists largely of photocopies of articles by Robert Brown published in various scientific journals, 1868-1870, on botany, medicinal plants, birds, geology and Native American use of medicinal plants in the Pacific Northwest. Also included is a photocopy of a manuscript letter from Archibald Menzies to Robert Brown.

Clement G. Clarke was pastor of the First Congregational Church, Portland, Oregon, 1923-1928. Before coming to Portland, he had been forced to resign from positions in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Peoria, Illinois. Collection consists of typescript carbon copies of newspaper articles from Minneapolis and Peoria, 1911-1915, regarding Clarke's activities as pastor in those communities, and telegrams to the Oregonian, 1926-1928, regarding Clarke's character.

Collection consists of manuscript and typescript copy extracts from Oregon newspapers, 1862-1896, regarding early exploration of the Crater Lake, Oregon area; manuscript and typescript copies of letters to the editor, 1874-1933, giving first-hand accounts of explorations of Crater Lake, Oregon, by William K. Kuykendall, E. W. Hammond, Orson A. Stearns, etc.

Papers of a journalist who worked in Oregon and Washington state and specialized in environmental reporting. The collection includes personal information, early student essays, travel essays, poetry, articles published in newspapers and magazines, and material for three books. Included are background sources and notes to support articles and books.

Collection consists of photocopied articles published in the the London Journal of Botany from 1845-1847, concerning Charles (Karl) A. Geyer's investigations of plant life in Missouri and the Oregon Territory.

Collection includes articles and photographs describing Kaplan turbines at the Bonneville Dam, 1937-1940, including descriptions of their special characteristics and installation. Also included are plans for the turbines. Paul Loveridge Heslop (1891-1956) was a mechanical engineer and chief of the Structural and Mechanical Section at the Bonneville Dam.
