Swedish Aid Society records

Abstract

The Swedish Aid Society was an organization established in 1893 to provide financial assistance to Swedish immigrant members during illnesses and to help defray expenses of members' funerals. It was legally dissolved in 1962. Collection includes constitution; correspondence; member lists; treasurer reports; certificate of dissolution; minute book with most entries in Swedish; and account books.

Letters from Paul S. Takata to Helen C. Scott (1880-1968) and her husband, Ralph L. Scott (1881-1962). Takata immigrated to the United States from Japan and worked at the Scotts' floral business in Portland, Oregon, before being called back to Japan for military service in 1914. The letters postdate Takata's time in the U.S.

The collection also includes research materials relating to Yankton and St. Helens, Oregon, and to Yankton Church.
