Abstract

Two ledgers for M & A Shogren, a dressmaking business in Portland, Oregon, and personal papers of May E. Shogren (1861-1928), who operated the business with her younger sister, Anne H. Shogren (1868-1934). The personal papers consist of a microfilm copy of a diary kept by May Shogren and an exercise notebook containing essays about literature. The Shogren sisters operated their business from the 1890s through the 1910s, specializing in high-fashion custom dresses.

Abstract Two notebooks that belonged to Mary F. Slavin (later Mary F. Prince, 1853-1936) when she was a teenager and then a young woman. Both books include diary entries, though the bulk of the first book consists of clippings of poems and illustrations. Both books include entries describing camping trips Slavin took to the Oregon coast in September 1870 and August 1875. Alvin T. Smith papers

Abstract

Papers of Alvin T. Smith (1802-1888), including his diaries, and records and correspondence relating to his tenure as postmaster at Tualatin, Oregon Territory (later Forest Grove, Oregon). Smith emigrated to the Oregon Territory in 1840 as a lay missionary, and moved to what would become Forest Grove in 1841. He served as postmaster in the 1850s, and was one of the founders of Tualatin Academy (later Pacific University).

Kambouris (1898-1964) was a Greek immigrant who lived in Oregon and various western states.

Manuscript diary of Private H. C. C. Stevens, Battery E, 65th Coast Artillery Corps., February 22, 1918-January 30, 1919, regarding his experiences as an American soldier in France during World War I. Stevens (1898-1979) was a native of Portland, Oregon. He became a partner in the insurance company Stevens & Brewster, served as the president of the Oregon Association of Insurance Agents, and was a member of many civic organizations.
