The McAfee family owned a drugstore in Astoria, Oregon. Family papers include shares of stock in the Pacific Silver & Copper Mining Company, Salem, Oregon, belonging to Dr. J. W. McAfee, 1865-1876; correspondence regarding and stock in The Educators Company, Portland, Oregon, belonging to William Edward McAfee, 1917-1918; and a manuscript will of Mary Ellen Norton, née McAfee, with typescript supplement, 1916.

Papers of Lewis A. McArthur (1883-1951) and his family, particularly papers relating to research on Oregon place names. McArthur was a historian who published Oregon Geographic Names in 1928. He published a second edition of the work in 1944, and had completed most of the work for the third edition before his death.
