Collection includes manuscript correspondence between Benton Killin and family, the Oregon State Horticultural Society, the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Thomas M. Gatch, C. E. Dentler of Oregon State University, and John H. Mitchell, 1894-1910, regarding Benton Killin's work in agriculture in Oregon and Alaska. Also included are speeches, circa 1900-1901; manuscript notes on Kodiak, Alaska, partially in Russian; medical diary of Dr. Frank B. Kistner, 1 volume, 1902; marriage and other certificates, 1873-1906; and miscellaneous ephemera.

Biographical note

John Killin (of Pennsylvania, born 1793) and Frances Ulan (of Ohio, born 1815) married in 1834. They came to Oregon in 1845 with a son, Benton (1842-1905). Benton served in the United States Army from 1862 to 1865. Later, he was a lawyer in the Logan and Shattuck Firm. He was a trustee of Pacific University in Forest Grove and the president of the Oregon Pioneers.
