Scope and Contents
Records of Podkrepa, an organization for Bulgarian Americans and Macedonian Americans in Portland, Oregon. The bulk of the collection consists of minute books and financial records. The minute books cover the years 1940 to 1946, while the financial records span from the organization's founding in 1939 to the mid-1950s. Financial records include membership dues books, financial record books, banking records, bills and receipts, and U.S. federal tax records. Some entries in one financial record book are written in Bulgarian. The collection also includes a folder of correspondence with and records relating to Oregon state agencies, including the Industrial Accident Commission, the State Tax Commission, and the Corporation Department.

Administrative History
Podkrepa, sometimes called Bulgaro-Macedonian Association Podkrepa, is an organization in Portland, Oregon, for Bulgarian Americans and Macedonian Americans. It was founded in 1939 by Radi Cherkezov and Petia Cherkezov. Meetings were initially held at the Cherkezov residence, but the organization built a lodge on N. Killingsworth Street in the 1950s. Podkrepa became a non-profit charitable organization in 2011.
