Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 28 posters, 173 handbills, 727 tickets, and one bumper sticker for music concerts and events held in Portland, Oregon, from about 1967 to 1970. These materials were collected by Portland resident Jason Blumklotz. Most of the items specifically relate to either psychedelic rock concerts or to the 1970 Portland Music and Art Fair, but the collection also includes a poster and handbill for a concert by blues artist B. B. King. Rock bands represented in the posters and handbills include the Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Steve Miller Band, and Steppenwolf. The tickets in the collection are for a 1968 Steppenwolf concert; a June 1969 concert with Steve Miller Band, Total Eclipse and United States Cadenza; a July 1969 concert with Steve Miller Band, Alice Cooper, and Total Eclipse; a 1970 Canned Heat Concert; a 1970 Chicago concert; and the 1970 Portland Music and Art Fair. The bumper sticker in the collection is for the 1970 Portland Music and Art Fair.

Biographical Note

Jason Blumklotz, a resident of Portland, Oregon, began collecting concert posters in the mid-1980s. He also serves on the board of of directors for Friends of Noise, a youth music and arts nonprofit, and created the Music for Social Justice Program at Irvington School.
