Scope and Contents
The collection consists of materials and a video recording relating to a rally held on March 13, 2009, in Portland, Oregon, to protest the closure of the Oregon Historical Society Research Library. Papers include the e-mail correspondence of rally organizer Jan Dilg with other rally participants and with Oregonian reporter Lynne Terry. Other papers in the collection consist of statements criticizing the library's closure; notes relating to organizing and scheduling the rally; a script for remarks; sign-up sheets; a clipping of a notice about the rally in the Oregonian; and printouts of articles in Crosscut News and the Portland Tribune about the rally. The video recording in the collection, made on a Mini-DV cassette, consists of footage from the rally, filmed by P. C. Peri of Flying Fish Video.

The Oregon Historical Society owns the materials in the Research Library and makes available reproductions for research, publication, and other uses. The Society does not necessarily hold copyright to all materials in the collections. In some cases, permission for use may require seeking additional authorization from copyright owners.
Historical Note
On February 25, 2009, the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, Oregon, announced that, due to budget constraints, it would cut 15 positions and close its research library. In response, a rally was held on March 13, 2009, to support the research library and its staff. Authors and historians, as well as former Oregon Historical Society Executive Director Tom Vaughan, spoke at the event. Later in March, the society announced that the research library would reopen with limited hours. In November 2010, voters passed a property tax levy to help fund the Oregon Historical Society, including its research library.
