From then until 1987, Forrester wrote news columns that the bureau distributed to newspapers in Oregon, Washington state, and Idaho, including the Eugene Register-Guard, the Daily Astorian, the East Oregonian, the Klamath Falls Herald & News, the Roseburg News Review, and the Medford Mail Tribune. He then succeeded his father, J. W. "Bud" Forrester, as publisher and editor of the Daily Astorian in Astoria, Oregon.
