Scope and Contents

The collection consists of records of Portland International Women's Day, an annual event held in Portland, Oregon, on International Women's Day in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The bulk of the collection consists of materials relating to the events held from 1990 to 2010. These materials include programs, flyers, photographs, postcards, statements, clippings, and posters. Other materials in the collection include articles of incorporation filed in 1987; guidelines, information, and agreements for vendors at the celebration; historical information about International Women's Day; and proclamations signed by Portland mayors Bud Clark and Vera Katz and by Oregon Governor Barbara Roberts.

Administrative History

Portland International Women's Day was an annual event on International Women's Day in in Portland, Oregon, that began in 1976. Initially focused on the issue of equal rights for women, the event shifted its focus to celebrating women's contributions to the community. The event included vendors, talks, workshops, and performances. The organizing committee dissolved in 2022.

Processing Information

Processing included flattening of posters and removal of materials from a binder for preservation purposes. Materials from the binder were kept in their original order.
