Sarah Maria Kelty family recipe book and photographs
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a recipe book kept by Sarah Maria Kelty; her daughter, Emily Q. Platts; and Platts's daughter, Mary Riesland King. Most of the recipes are handwritten, but several were clipped from newspapers. The collection also contains five photographs of all three women, and two small pages of notes, written by Platts, about Sarah Maria Kelty.

Biographical Note
Sarah Maria Kelty (neƩ Scott) was born in 1847; she was a sister of Harvey Scott and Abigail Scott Duniway. Her family emigrated to Oregon in 1852. In 1869, she married James M. Kelty (1842-1919). She lived in Lafayette, Oregon, until 1893, when she moved to Portland, Oregon. She died in 1901. Her daughter, Emily Queen Kelty (later Emily Q. Platts, 1880-1950), married Charles Benjamin "Ben" Riesland in 1903 but divorced in 1920. The couple had two children: Carl B. Riesland (1904-1932) and Mary Scott Riesland (later Mary Riesland King, 1913-2017). She remarried in 1928 to U.S. Army officer Willis A. Platts (1880-1945).
