Scope and Contents

The collection consists of historical publications and posters relating to Oregon history that writer and researcher Thomas A. Emmens collected. Publications include a souvenir program for the 1930 celebration of the anniversary of the Champoeg Meetings; an issue of the Congressional Record that includes William E. Humphrey's 1911 remarks about the Oregon Trail; an 1846 memorial to the U.S. Congress proposing the establishment of a reservation for Native people in central Oregon; and the August 25, 1877 and January 12, 1878 issues of the newsletter Oregon Semi-Monthly Argus. Posters in the collection consist of a poster advertising the 1926 Oregon Pioneer Association reunion, and a poster advertising the 1931 celebration of the Champoeg Meetings. The collection also includes the receipt for Emmens' purchase of the Congressional Record issue, and typed notes about the Congressional Record issue and the posters.

Biographical Note

Thomas Alfred Emmens (1942-2005) was a historical writer and researcher. He wrote articles for the Southern Oregon Historical Society, and in 1976 co-authored a history of the New Market Theater in Portland, Oregon, with Scott W. McLean.
