Typescript copy of diary entries made by Henry Hunter Peters from July 8, 1850, to August 4, 1850, describing a trip from San Francisco, California, to the Oregon Territory. Entries discuss travels to places including Vancouver, Portland, Oregon City, Salem, and Astoria. The typescript of the entries was made from a diary included in a collection of Peters' papers at the New York Public Library; it includes a cover sheet that provides brief biographical information about Peters and details about the collection of his papers.

Biographical note

Per biographical material included in the collection, Henry Hunter Peters (1825-1877) went to California from New York in the 1850s, intending to deal in lumber. He ultimately ran a successful small banking business in San Francisco and Sacramento. In 1854, he returned to the East Coast and settled on a farm in Massachusetts.
