Administrative History

The Oregon Democracy Project was a coalition founded in late 1991 that consisted of four nonprofit groups: The Coalition for Human Dignity; the Lesbian Community Project; the Oregon Alliance for Progressive Policy; and the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. The coalition sought to counter growing homophobia in Oregon, including the introduction of anti-gay Ballot Measure 9, by educating the public and training activists about combating bigotry and engaging in participatory democracy. In 1992, the group reached out to 50,000 Oregonians through a combination of written material, workshops, and presentations. The organization existed through 1993.
