Scope and Contents
Papers of Wells Smith Gilbert include biographical material; correspondence regarding fluoridation, the Portland Beautification Association, Pro-America organization, lumber, and other topics; financial records; and miscellaneous ephemera. Also included is correspondence, 1900-1906, with Gilbert's father, Giles, regarding timber in Tillamook, Grays Harbor, Klickitat, and Eastern Oregon; and a ledger, 1937-1945, including information regarding a purchase of water works property in the Dunthorpe area of Portland, Oregon.

Biographical note
Wells Smith Gilbert (1870-1965) was president of the Olean Lumber Company and manager of the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company's Oregon properties. His wife, Page Morris Gilbert, started the Portland Opera Guild and a Pro-America organization.
