Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a handwritten letter from Kina McKelvey to her sister, Merle McKelvey. In the letter, McKelvey describes watching the electrical parade and the "Spirit of the Golden West" parade at the 1909 Portland Rose Festival. She also describes an outing she took to Bonneville, Oregon.

Biographical Note

Kina McKelvey (later Kina Ross) was born in 1884 in Paxton, Illinois, but came to Portland, Oregon, with her family when she was one year old. In 1914, she married physician Thomas W. Ross (1884-1948); the couple had two daughters. After her husband's death, she lived in Taft, Oregon. Kina Ross died in 1960.
