Biographical note
Dorsey B. Smith was born in Tennessee in 1872 and moved to Illinois in his youth, where he learned the printing trade. He attended business school in Kentucky, then moved to Oregon as the secretary to the president of the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company. He later became known for his "Journal Tours" owned his own travel company, and was the proprietor of the Cloud Cap Inn near Mount Hood. For a time he was the president of the Portland Rotary Club.
