Biographical note

James H. Polhemus (born 1887) was the chief engineer and general manager of the Port of Portland, 1923-1936. He rebuilt and modernized the Portland drydocks, helped secure the site for the Swan Island Airport and founded the Portland Dredging Company, 1928-1930.
