Administrative history

Dean Brothers Lake Tahkenitch Auto Resort was established in the early 1930s by brothers Ross R. Dean (1903-1973) and George M. Dean (1899-1986) and their brother-in-law Fred Assenheimer (1870-1944). The resort was located on the shore of Lake Tahkenitch near Gardiner, Oregon, on land leased from the Crown Willamette Paper Company. It included cabins, boat rentals, a gas station, and a dance hall/cafe building. The resort burned down in August 1939, and was subsequently rebuilt. Disagreements between the Dean brothers led to the resort going into receivership in the summer of 1940 and being sold in April 1941.
