Biographical note

Robert Charlton Lee (1852-1942) was a sailor and a Methodist minister. He was born in Manchester, England, and was educated in Britain. In 1871, he became a seaman, and in 1874, he received his third officer's papers. Later, he became a first mate and then a captain. In 1891, he was ordained as a Methodist minister. After the end of his time at sea, he lived in Seattle, and, with his family, he later moved to Sequim Prairie at Dungeness, Washington. Lee subsequently lived and worked in many places around the Northwest, including South Bend, Washington; Marshfield, in Coos County, Oregon; Sumpter, Oregon; Haines, Oregon; Weiser, Idaho; and Union, Oregon.
