Woodworth, Portland, Oregon, 1 page, June 3, 1899, regarding financial matters; and a manuscript letter from John Smith, Warm Springs Indian Agency, 1 page, December 5, 1871, regarding a survey made along the Columbia River near The Dalles fishery.

Biographical note

Alfred Benjamin Meacham (born 1826) and his wife, Orpha Caroline Feree (born 1828) were 1850 pioneers to Suisun City, California, where Alfred operated a marble quarry with his brother, Harry. In 1862, they all moved to eastern Oregon and established Meacham Station. They were joined by brother John. In 1873, Alfred was appointed to the Peace Commission following the end of the Modoc War, eventually becoming Superintendent of Indian Affairs.
