Biographical note
Jessie May Short was born in Iowa in 1873 and died in Portland in 1947. She was an authority on mathematics and astronomy. She was an assistant professor of mathematics at Reed College from 1920 to 1939. She also taught at the University of Oregon extension center from retirement until 1946, when she began teaching at Vanport College. She also served on the Portland School Board. She was involved in many civic groups and during the war years worked with the Kaiser shipyards as an engineer.

Abstract
Jessie May Short (1873-1947) was an assistant professor of mathematics at Reed College from 1920 to 1939.
