Portland - Portland Heights, 1909
Scope and Contents
This collection of 272 photographic prints and 255 negatives portrays the life and work of Percy Albert Lockwood from 1908 to circa 1920. The bulk of the photographs document Oregon and Washington survey and construction projects in Corvallis, Newberg, Welches, along the Deschutes River, and in Hansen (Washington). While on assignment at these locations, Lockwood documented local people, military parades, and scenery. His photographs of the Welches area include Rhododendron, Toll Gate, and Zig Zag Mountain. Lockwood also photographed extended family gatherings of the William B. Cate family near Eugene and Brownsville, Oregon. A smaller number of photographs document his mother and stepfather's house in the Portland Heights neighborhood, at 580 Hawthorne Terrace (later 1841 SW Hawthorne Terrace), where he boarded for a number of years when he was attending school.
