Notes on the life of John Minto, circa 1962-1963
Scope and Contents
Collection of materials by and about John Minto (1822-1915), who emigrated to Oregon in 1844. The materials were compiled, and some created, by John H. Hall, who researched Minto. They include two copies of a paper about Minto, written by Hall in 1964 for a class at Reed College; notes about Minto; and a paper titled "Preliminary study of the land use observations of John Minto," by Dorothy D. Hirsch, Portland State University, May 1973. The bulk of the collection consists of typescript copies of Minto's writing on topics including life in Oregon, leaders of 1843-1844, the Cayuse War, the Tillamook people, and use of forest resources, as well as typescripts of Minto's autobiography. Much of the material in this collection was copied from the Oregon Historical Society Research Library's collection of John Minto's papers, Mss 752.
