Private residences
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of 133 black and white photographs of structures designed by Portland, Oregon, architect, Ernest F. Tucker (1901-1976). The bulk of the collection focuses on Portland residences, but also includes residences located in Bend, Cannon Beach, and Lake Oswego. Photographs of several homes in Longview and Vancouver, Washington, are also part of this collection.
The collection also shows some of Tucker's work on the University of Oregon's Carson Hall, Erb Memorial Union, and the Library. Other public buildings featured are the Lombard Branch Library and Macleay Shelter (at Macleay Park). During the 1960s, Tucker also worked on commercial buildings in Portland, two of which were Chown Hardware and Smith Auto Parts, whose photographs are included in this collection.
The bulk of the photographs in this collection were taken by Walter Boychuck, but those of Photo-Art Commercial Studios also play a prominent role. The work of various other, smaller studios is shown throughout the collection.
