Biographical note

Ernest F. Tucker was the son of Dr. Ernest Fanning Tucker and Mabel Beck Tucker, and was born in Portland in 1901. In 1925, Tucker earned a degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and returned to Oregon, where he was briefly associated with Portland architect, Arthur E. Doyle. During Tucker's prosperous career, he designed private residences, public buildings, and commercial structures, primarily in the Portland area.

Tucker merged with two other local architects, H. Abbott Lawrence and George Wallmann, in the 1940s. Although the firm continued to design private homes, the business emphasized educational facilities and public buildings. For the next 20 years, Tucker helped shape the University of Oregon, Eugene, campus with the addition of Carson Hall, the science building, the Erb Memorial Union, and an addition to the Library.
