Abstract Marion Stafford Hansell was born just outside Athena, Oregon, in 1913. He grew up on a farm in Umatilla County, Oregon, and later ran a hog farm with his brother, Bill Hansell. He represented Umatilla County in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1957 to 1974 and was an early advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana.
