Abstract

Small collection of materials that belonged to Bernice E. Mayer, sister of the owners of Sawyer's Inc., manufacturer of the View-Master stereoscope. The collection includes photographs of company buildings, employees, equipment, and products, as well as booklets about Sawyer's and an employee handbook.

Papers of Bethenia Owens-Adair (1840-1926), including letters from Jesse Applegate, a speech by Owens-Adair in support of women's suffrage, a pro-eugenics booklet by Owens-Adair, and a letter from Owens-Adair to Fred Lockley. Owens-Adair was one of the first women working as doctors in Oregon to hold a medical degree, and was active in the temperance, women's suffrage, and eugenics movements.

Abstract The collection consists of printed material, correspondence, and administrative, financial, and legal records created and collected by the Stella Maris House, a Portland, Oregon-based social justice group, during the course of its work. The collection demonstrates the local evolution of issues key to the history of the United States during the 1960s.
